Since When is a $23 Million cut a "Mixed Signal"?

Filed under: Uncategorized — sciencevigilante @ 6:21 pm

Democr-I mean “hypocracy” in action: Seems like a $23 million budget cut is a pretty clear signal to me.

And, um, when you call something an ADDICTION, have direct ties to the cartel that sells the substance, and cut “treatment” research budgets at the same time, that makes you look, um what’s the word here? Bad?

At least the pres understands the importance of translating science into plain speech, and has finally admitted to our oil addiction.

Science in the News

Filed under: Uncategorized — sciencevigilante @ 4:30 pm

Great resource, from a great site brings 3 great stories today:

Great story, very weird title (AIMS at???). We loved: “to heighten public understanding and support for science and to preserve the distinctions between science and religion in the public sphere,” rock on with that goal, Alliance for Science guys!

Further evidence anti-stem cell politicoes may help kill us all.

Is 514 really a big number? What % of “Scientists and Engineers” is that anyways? 1×10 to the power of negative what?

Oh, oh, way to go Ohio.

Good show, Ohio. Except, bummer the STATE Board of Education let this language get in there in the first place.

Big Shout Out to Casey Luskin for my new favorite quote… Evidently NOT lying to school children is censorship. Who knew?

Brain Zapping Miracles

S.V. swears she didn’t start this blog just to overshare her medical history. But after a recent mini-stroke this article was doubly-interesting.

Speaking of stroke, know that 34 y.o. chicks w/ NO risk factors CAN have strokes. Be careful out there, and it’s baby aspirin + 911 if you have any stroke symptoms. They’re really not kidding.

Super-lucky S.V. is not suffering any major deficits since a few days after the stroke, just a stutter and some muddle-headedness, passed the OT check with flying colors. Now, how do I figure out if my intellect was affected? How do I fix it?

Oh My God.

(yeah, the subject line is ironic)

Is www.arn.org to be believed? Here I am reading this relatively articulate (albeit hysterical and alarmist) ‘medical’ article when I stumble over: “Along the way, keep in mind that those who promote the validity of macroevolution, expect us to believe that this interdependent, extremely complex system for controlling bleeding in the body, developed one step at a time while still allowing a multi-system organism with a complex body plan to survive each step along the way.”

HUH?

The erstwhile scientifically literate ID-ers. They REALLY scare me.

Now never once does this ol’ gent mention the fact that blood clotting disorders are RAMPANT, and that the ‘multi-system organism with a complex body plan’ generally DID NOT ’survive each step along the way’ from biogenesis to joe-6pack. Duh, 3 hapless complex organisms bite it before his essay even starts…
